During the middle and latter part of the 19th century, when ribbons of steel were crossing our country in the form of a railroad network, the Dietz Globe Lantern achieved tremendous popularity. It was used as an oil burning post lamp at the railroad station. The smaller style was carried by conductors from a large wire ball designed to encircle the conductor's arm, leaving both hands free. Its graceful pear shaped glass with brass wire guard make it one of our finest reproductions. (This style is not available without brass wire guard)
